Comfort Food Community is currently looking for a Community Health Worker to join our team!
We are looking for compassionate, engaging individuals who work well on a team and possess a combination of communication, computer, and culinary skills, a knowledge or willingness to learn about community resources and services, health and nutrition knowledge, and a passion for inspiring others to use food as medicine. This position requires clear documentation, time management, commitment, and self-motivation.
A successful candidate will also need to be flexible. This position was originally conceived to focus on two areas of Community Health Work – Case Management and Nutrition Education. With the onset of COVID-19, however, our organizational priorities have shifted and the feasibility of safely performing public engagement activities has changed. The initial responsibilities of the position reflect these changes.
In the short-term, the Community Health Worker will spend a large portion of their time as a liaison between clients and regional resources, such as unemployment assistance, SNAP, transportation, and other needs. In coordination with the Community Health Manager, this position will assist in larger regional and county initiatives and work on CFC’s food distribution goals. The CHW is also responsible coordinating the Fit & Fresh program. Additionally, the CHW will work with the entire CFC team and programs to provide assistance when and where it is needed, including with the Fresh Food Collective, Food Center, and Community Health programs.
As the impacts of COVID-19 subside, the position will transition towards the originally conceived Scope of Work. The Nutrition Education responsibilities will include providing cooking demonstrations, health coaching, recipe creation and distribution, and general nutrition education in one-on-one and class settings. The Community Health Worker will work with the Community Health Manager and the rest of the CFC staff to identify how and when this programming can be re-introduced to the community as circumstances change.
If these responsibilities and challenges match your skills and interest, we would love to hear from you. To apply please e-mail a resume, cover letter, and the below employment application to: devin@comfortfoodcommunity.org. Applications must be received by close of business 12/10/21.
