Comfort Food Community Receives a 38,281-Pound Food Donation to Help Meeting Rising Regional Need

Comfort Food Community received 38,281 pounds of donated food to its Food and Farm Hub in Greenwich, N.Y. on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026, at 10 a.m., by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This donation is estimated to be able to provide food to approximately 1,400 people each week, helping CFC respond to the growing need across Washington, Warren, Saratoga, and Rensselaer counties. 

Through the America Gives Initiative, a nationwide service effort connected to America 250, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is delivering 250 semitrucks to 250 food access organizations across all 50 states, with each truck carrying approximately 40,000 pounds of food. The effort reflects a shared commitment to reducing hunger, strengthening communities, and creating meaningful opportunities for service.

For CFC, the delivery comes at a critical moment, as the organization’s food access programs continue to serve a growing number of households which depends on reliable storage, efficient distribution, and strong community partnerships to reach those most in need.

"This donation will have an immediate and meaningful impact on our ability to serve people across the region," said Laura Marx, Executive Director of Comfort Food Community. "As demand for food assistance continues to grow, partnerships like this help ensure that our pantries, community programs, and distribution network remain stocked with nutritious food for those who need it most.”

"The Food and Farm Hub was designed to strengthen our regional food system by providing the infrastructure needed to store, aggregate, and distribute food efficiently," said Marx. "This donation demonstrates the importance of that capacity and allows us to maximize the impact of every pound of food we receive, moving it quickly and effectively into communities throughout our service area."

More than 70,000 individuals each year receive food through CFC's food access programs, like the Greenwich and Cossayuna food pantries, and the Farm 2 Library program.
